A winter spectacle

Not everyone loves winter, but at Remuera Gardens we’re big fans of the season — it’s when our camellias burst into bloom.

Our eight acres of gardens are a spectacle all year round, offering colour and interest through every season. Winter, however, belongs to the camellias. With more than 150 varieties now flowering, the village is transformed into a vibrant display of colour, carefully nurtured by our dedicated gardening team.

One of our gardeners, Aaron, has spent the past 10 years meticulously labelling plants throughout the village. This means that if a resident is drawn to a particular bloom, fragrance, or tree during a walk, they can easily identify it and learn more about it later. His work often resembles botanical detective work, drawing on books, encyclopaedias, online resources, and even the expertise of Auckland Botanic Gardens.

Remuera Gardens isn’t called the Garden Village by chance. This established, family-owned retirement village — now home to beautiful brand-new apartments — is set among eight acres of cottage and tropical gardens, featuring a wonderfully eclectic mix of native and exotic species. It’s a place where nature, character, and community come together.

Our gardens are what truly set us apart, and we’re incredibly proud of this botanical haven. The collection includes everything from the rare Brazilian Walking Iris to the South African Elephant Bush. These beautiful surroundings provide daily enjoyment, relaxation, and inspiration for residents and visitors alike.

Centrally located in Remuera, our village is close to shops, cafés, medical centres, and green spaces such as Waiatarua Wetland Reserve, yet quietly tucked away at the end of a peaceful cul-de-sac. This unique combination of convenience and tranquillity is what makes Remuera Gardens feel both connected and secluded, vibrant and serene.

At Remuera Gardens, beautiful gardens aren’t simply part of the landscape — they’re part of everyday life.
