Shaun Wallace Returns to Remuera Gardens

Did you know that Shaun Wallace, the legendary quizzer known as the Dark Destroyer on The Chase, has visited Remuera Gardens before? Back in 2023, the English barrister and television personality made a surprise visit to the village while touring New Zealand for a series of charity quiz events.

Just a few hours after landing in New Zealand, Shaun joined residents from across Real Living’s villages for a lively Q&A at Remuera Garden. This was followed by a meet and greet, where residents had the opportunity to chat with him and take photos.

But it wasn't just his impressive quizzing skills that made the afternoon memorable. Shaun revealed that he was a big fan of New Zealand, with a particular love for the Kiwi favourite: Onion dip!

As luck would have it, Rosemary Mount, the inventor of Kiwi onion dip, was among the audience. Rosemary had invented the dip while working as a home economist for Nestle in the late 1950s. When Shaun discovered she was there, he rushed over to give her a hug, and the two shared a lovely moment of mutual admiration. It was certainly an unexpected highlight of the afternoon!

Fast forward to 2026, we are delighted to be welcoming Shaun back to Remuera Gardens for another special occasion.

On Wednesday 4 November, residents and guests will have the opportunity to hear from the man himself at a live Q&A at Remuera Gardens. From his journey to becoming a professional quizzer to life behind the scenes of The Chase, it promises to be an entertaining opportunity to get to know Shaun beyond his famous Chaser persona.

While Shaun Wallace is certainly a special guest, he is just one of the many familiar faces who have visited Remuera Gardens over the years, from iconic broadcaster Judy Bailey sharing stories from her remarkable career, to chef Mike Van de Elzen inspiring residents with his passion for simple, healthy meals, and renowned naturalist Ruud Kleinpaste, better known as ‘The Bug Man’, exploring the village’s beautiful gardens and sharing his love for the natural world. While Shaun Wallace is certainly a special guest, he is just the latest in a long line of familiar faces to visit Remuera Gardens.

These special visits are just a single part of life at Remuera Gardens, where a vibrant calendar of events, activities and opportunities to connect with others means there is always something to look forward to. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and a welcoming community, Remuera Gardens offers a lifestyle where there is plenty to enjoy, new connections to make and something happening around every corner.
