Get involved in village life!

At Remuera Gardens, retirement living isn’t about downsizing — it’s about upgrading your lifestyle. When you move to the Garden Village, you choose how to spend your day — and just as importantly, the level of involvement and activity that suits you.

Our brand-new Avenue Apartments are among the largest in Remuera, with generous storage throughout — so you don’t have to give up the hobbies, interests, or passions that matter to you. In fact, many residents find they finally have the space and freedom to discover new ones.

Some residents enjoy a gentle stroll through our beautifully maintained cottage and tropical gardens, home to more than 150 varieties of roses and 150 varieties of camellias. There’s also a raised vegetable garden for those who enjoy getting their hands in the soil or growing fresh produce to share with neighbours.

For those who prefer a more active lifestyle, the village offers lawn bowls, pétanque, a gym, and a regular programme of group activities including tai chi and line dancing.

Our heated pool is one of the most loved facilities — especially with visiting grandchildren. Yes, they’re welcome to swim with you any day, which tends to make our residents the undisputed favourites during school holidays.

Our village bus offers regular shopping trips and scenic outings to the countryside, making it easy to stay connected beyond the village.

Residents also enjoy a lively calendar of social events, including quiz nights, high teas, and live concerts. Last year, as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations, we were proud to host a special Q&A with Judy Bailey, a cooking demonstration with celebrity chef Mike Van de Elzen, and an exclusive garden tour led by the Bug Man himself, Ruud Kleinpaste.

Real Living is a family-owned business, and that makes a real difference. For over 40 years, we’ve put people before profits — offering a level of care and responsiveness that corporate, cookie-cutter operators simply can’t replicate.

So when residents told us they’d love a café, we listened. The result? A much-loved pop-up café serving barista coffee and some of the best sweet and savoury treats this side of Remuera.

Our talented chef, Rachael, prepares everything fresh each morning — from flaky pastries to hearty savouries and indulgent slices. The lunch menu changes daily, with resident favourites including savoury scones and signature cakes like cherry pie and lemon meringue.

Curious to see what life in the Garden Village could look like for you?

We’re hosting a “Give It a Go” week at the end of March — a perfect opportunity to experience Remuera Gardens for yourself.

Gold Award Recognition for The Avenues Apartments

Congratulations to Kalmar for taking home a Gold Award at the New Zealand Commercial Project Awards for the construction of The Avenues Apartments at Remuera Gardens. The Avenues introduced two premium apartment buildings into a fully operational retirement village, requiring careful planning and collaboration every step of the way. Delivered through challenges including major infrastructure upgrades and post-COVID supply pressures, the project was completed while preserving the character and daily life of the community already in place.

Honouring those who served

Real Living Villages are closely connected to the communities around them, which is why ANZAC Day holds such special meaning for us. Our villages not only honour the day internally with residents, but we also take pride in participating alongside the wider community whenever possible. Today we had the privilege of standing alongside the Mount Wellington–Panmure RSA for their ANZAC Day commemorations.
