A Beautiful Celebration of Garden Living
Remuera Gardens is now in full bloom! Explore our eight acres of cottage and tropical gardens, home to an eclectic array of native and exotic species — including more than 150 varieties of roses and 150 varieties of camellias.
We’re incredibly proud of our botanical haven, which features several hundred species of trees and plants, including many rare and unusual specimens from around the world, such as the Brazilian ‘Walking Iris’ and the South African ‘Elephant Bush’. Above all, the gardens bring daily enjoyment and relaxation to our residents and guests alike — and we’re celebrating the joy they bring with a special Garden & Apartment Tours event.
The Neomarica caerulea, or Walking Iris, is an unusual member of the Iris family that blooms in spring.
Join our expert gardeners for a guided tour of the grounds and meet our VIP guest, Ruud Kleinpaste — ‘The Bug Man’. While you’re here, you can also tour the brand-new Avenue Apartments, some of the largest in Remuera and available now.
Our gardening experts will lead you through a vibrant landscape of roses, camellias, azaleas, begonias, bromeliads, dahlias, hibiscus, and a rich collection of native and international plants and trees. The roses are the stars of the summer season, filling the village with extraordinary colour and fragrance — a delight for residents and visitors alike.
After the garden tour, you’ll meet Ruud Kleinpaste in the Pavilion, the central hub of our new Avenue Apartments. Ruud is one of New Zealand’s most respected naturalists, renowned for his lifelong commitment to conservation, ecological education, and inspiring Kiwis to appreciate the wonders of the natural world. After 14 years as an entomologist with the Ministry of Agriculture, he became a household name through Ruud’s Awakening on Newstalk ZB and iconic television programmes such as Maggie’s Garden Show, What Now?, and Buggin’ with Ruud.
A passionate advocate for biodiversity, Ruud has served as trustee and patron across numerous environmental charities and has received an Honorary Doctorate, the Outstanding Alumnus Award from Wageningen University, and was appointed MNZM for services to conservation and entomology.
At Remuera Gardens, we share Ruud’s passion for the natural world. For more than a decade, our dedicated gardener Aaron Sweden has meticulously catalogued every plant in the village, creating a living botanical guide for residents — complete with labels so everyone can learn each species along the way. With more than 150 varieties of camellias and 150 varieties of roses — including favourites like Compassion, Iceberg, Climbing Ballerina, Crème de la Crème, and Waimarie — there is always something new to discover.
Aaron’s work often resembles detective work, using books, encyclopaedias, online resources, and even the expertise of the Auckland Botanic Gardens to identify rare species. Having photographed around 80% of the collection already, his next project is to create a published guide of Remuera Gardens’ plants and flowers for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The Avenue Apartments are the newest addition to Remuera Gardens — 61 modern, light-filled homes designed for effortless living, with generous floorplans (up to 163 sqm), beautiful interiors, and enviable outlooks across Remuera. These apartments give residents the freedom to keep living the way they love — with no need to downsize their lifestyle.
Our Garden & Apartment Tours will be a wonderful day to remember.
