Under the Oak Tree: Epsom’s Garden Party Celebration
When it comes to garden parties, Epsom Village truly steals the show!
The New Zealand weather delivered a flawless, sunny, windless day for the annual Garden Party beneath the majestic oak tree, with around 50 residents filling the shaded tables and enjoying a wonderful afternoon of delicious nibbles, companionship and live music.
Centrally located in Epsom, with convenient transport links at your doorstep, residents enjoy the best of both worlds — easy access to the city, and the peaceful charm of the village once you step through the gates. The oak tree becomes the heart of social gatherings during the warmer months, alongside the outdoor heated pool and community centre. It’s not only a retreat from the hustle and bustle, but also a beautiful place to connect with friends.
The village offers a vibrant calendar of activities, including quiz afternoons, guest speakers and themed dinners — with the Garden Party undoubtedly the highlight of summer. The live band, led by Jim Joll, played classics that eventually had everyone on their feet, including a full standing village wave to Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.
At the end of the party, residents thanked staff for such a lovely afternoon, with resident Judy saying, “I’m so lucky to live in this village,” Gil praising the fabulous musicians, and a lovely note from Neville that read:
“The Garden Party was the highlight of the month. What a wonderful afternoon — great weather, great food, great company, great music… the list goes on. Many thanks to the Epsom Village team who put this together superbly. I am already looking forward to next year!”
