Real Living raises more than $2800 for the Breast Cancer Foundation

Fundraising events are a vital part of Real Living’s social calendar, giving residents the opportunity to have delicious food and great company while raising funds for a good cause.

Pink Ribbon breakfast is one of the most popular fundraising initiatives at Real Living. This year three of our villages held a special breakfast to raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation. It was the first time for Epsom Village and the Lounge was at full capacity with residents inviting their family and friends to the event.

A sea of pink covered the Lounge with so many guests wanting to show their support for breast cancer patients wearing the iconic colour. Even the staff joined the dress code: Village Manager Lillian Fletcher and Village Assistant Penny Hostetler acted as Master of Ceremonies dressed up as pink guardian angels.

The residents enjoyed a succulent menu consisting of Eggs Benedict with a choice of salmon, bacon and mushrooms. Epsom Village’s star chef Nick cooked the Eggs Benedict “to perfection”, according to the residents, who really enjoyed having a potato roti as the base of the dish.

Pudding was a delicious strawberry tart named Pink Delight and there was a complimentary glass of juice or bubbles for every resident.

At Epsom Village the Pink Ribbon Breakfast had the participation of pianist Anria Breytenbach who performed a wonderful concert to accompany the event. Anria played some famous songs from the Sound of Music, Les Misérables, Cinema Paradiso and the Pink Panther.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast is Breast Cancer Foundation NZ’s biggest fundraising campaign, where each year thousands of amazing Kiwis across the country raise money to fund breast cancer education, research and patient support.

With the breakfast and the raffles organised for Pink Ribbon month, Real Living Villages have raised a whooping $2800 for the Breast Cancer Foundation. As always, we’re very proud to participate in this initiative and we would like to thank all the residents who have generously given to the cause.

Anzac Day commemoration

The week of Anzac Day is a very important time at Real Living, as all our villages join the nation in commemorating the service and sacrifice of New Zealand and Australian military personnel. Yesterday, Pakuranga Park celebrated a memorial gathering to remember the fallen and pay tribute to the bravery of our military members. At the end of the ceremony, they featured a performance by the Eno Sisters, a trio of talented singers who sing songs from the wartime era.

Lonely Miaow visits Real Living

There's only one thing that can make you happier than a kitten... and it's a bunch of kittens! Last week, the residents of Epsom Village were treated to a visit from Lonely Miaow, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and care of stray and abandoned cats and kittens. Lonely Miaow brought around 12 very friendly cats and kittens who loved mingling with the residents, having cuddles, and of course... getting into mischief.
