Bringing Passion and Innovation to Real Living
Reign’s career began in the Philippines as an ambulance nurse—a path he hadn’t initially envisioned for himself. “When I was a kid, I dreamed of being a Las Vegas dancer,” he says with a laugh. But a pivotal experience during an emergency changed everything. “One night, there was a terrible accident with many casualties. I performed CPR and revived two patients. When their families hugged me, I realized that this was my purpose. That moment was priceless—it became the turning point in my career.”
Reign moved to New Zealand, drawn by its renowned work-life balance, following a period of professional experience in the Philippines and the USA. His impressive 13-year career in the healthcare industry has been primarily focused on leadership roles as a clinical manager in retirement villages. Reign holds a Master’s of Health in Leadership and Management from Victoria University of Wellington, where he graduated with Merit. He is also a certified auditor for the Ministry of Health’s Nga Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard NZS 8134:2021.
But beyond his outstanding qualifications, it’s Reign’s enthusiasm, positivity, and dynamic energy that make him a perfect fit for Real Living. Passionate about advocating for senior adults, Reign is dedicated to championing the Real Living Model of Care, which emphasizes empowering both staff and residents to create a thriving and supportive culture.
“If I’m being honest, my favorite part of the job is when families or residents take the time to thank me,” Reign shares with heartfelt sincerity. “They don’t have to—it’s simply part of what we do—but that kind of appreciation? It’s pure heaven. It reminds me every day why I’m so passionate about this work.”
Reign is a strong advocate for open communication between staff and management, with a clear purpose of empowering nursing and clinical teams through the thoughtful policies he has developed over the years. One aspect he particularly appreciates about Real Living is its flat organizational structure, which ensures management remains accessible. “I haven’t met a single team member who doesn’t feel heard,” Reign shares with pride.
One of Reign’s most remarkable contributions to improving residents’ well-being is his innovative project that combines his two passions: dance and aged care. While working as a clinical manager in Blenheim, he developed a program integrating rhythm and dance exercises to enhance cognitive function and muscle strength. This program evolved into his master’s thesis at Victoria University, where he incorporated Tai Chi, Qi Gong, rhythmic tapping, meditation, and both standing and sitting exercises.
Through cognitive assessments conducted over three months, the program demonstrated significant benefits for residents, earning Reign’s thesis a Merit award.
Reign plans to expand this program at Real Living, collaborating with physiotherapists and doctors while tailoring the experience to residents’ favorite music. “The goal is to enhance well-being while creating a sense of community,” he shares.
Welcome to the team, Reign! We are excited to see how your unique blend of expertise and creativity will empower both our staff and residents, inspiring a culture of care, connection, and joy.
