Living Well Every Day at Remuera Gardens

What a fabulous week we had at Remuera Gardens during our recent Give It a Go Week, where residents and guests were invited to experience everything this vibrant village has to offer.

Staying active — both physically and mentally — is essential at every stage of life, and especially important as we get older. Research consistently shows that regular movement, social connection, and learning new skills help maintain independence, improve wellbeing, and support overall quality of life. That’s why at Real Living, each of our villages offers a thoughtfully designed programme of activities and exercise to support residents to stay active, connected, and engaged.

To showcase everything happening at Remuera Gardens, we opened the village to visitors from 30 March to 2 April for a lively and successful Give It a Go Week that truly had the village buzzing with energy.

The weather was on our side, and outdoor activities proved especially popular, including croquet, bowls, skittles and giant Jenga. With autumn colours beginning to appear across the grounds, the gardens looked particularly beautiful — especially around our new Avenue Apartments, framed by mature trees and seasonal colour.

Among the indoor sessions, Chair Pilates and Chair Yoga attracted strong interest and were held in the Avenue Pavilion, the central hub connecting our two newest apartment buildings and a welcoming space for residents to meet, connect and spend time together.

So many residents decided to step out of their comfort zone and try something new from the weekly activities calendar, including mahjong, Rummikub, 500, and even line dancing — with plenty of laughter along the way.

One of the things we are most proud of at Remuera Gardens is our range of modern facilities, including the professional tiered cinema and the heated indoor pool, which was a highlight for participants in the aqua aerobics sessions.

Guests visiting during the week had the opportunity to tour our brand-new apartments, enjoy a coffee and a treat at our popular Little Nook pop-up café (featuring some of the best brownies and scones this side of Remuera!), and explore the village’s beautiful eight acres of gardens.

Give It a Go Week also welcomed residents from our sister villages, Epsom Village and Pakuranga Park, reflecting the strong sense of connection across the Real Living family and the enjoyment residents share when spending time together.

Trying something new is one of life’s great pleasures — and it’s never too late to discover a new activity, make a new friend, or enjoy a new experience at Remuera Gardens.

Gold Award Recognition for The Avenues Apartments

Congratulations to Kalmar for taking home a Gold Award at the New Zealand Commercial Project Awards for the construction of The Avenues Apartments at Remuera Gardens. The Avenues introduced two premium apartment buildings into a fully operational retirement village, requiring careful planning and collaboration every step of the way. Delivered through challenges including major infrastructure upgrades and post-COVID supply pressures, the project was completed while preserving the character and daily life of the community already in place.

Honouring those who served

Real Living Villages are closely connected to the communities around them, which is why ANZAC Day holds such special meaning for us. Our villages not only honour the day internally with residents, but we also take pride in participating alongside the wider community whenever possible. Today we had the privilege of standing alongside the Mount Wellington–Panmure RSA for their ANZAC Day commemorations.
