Real Living honours grandparents with picture displays

New Zealand celebrated its inaugural Grandparents Day in 2018. This year, because of the lockdown, our villagers cannot spend the day with their grandchildren. Knowing that, a few weeks ago Real Living made a call to see if the residents wanted to share their favourite family pictures...and they certainly did!

Birthdays are a great excuse to take a family picture.
There are lots of pictures of big families, such as Neil's one. He has seven grandsons!

The residents loved browsing the albums in search of the best picture, specially now that they have all the time in their hands with the lockdown stopping most activites and gatherings at the villages. Some of them found it too hard to select only one picture, so they decided to send several pictures instead.

There's nothing more special than the first time grandparents meet their grandchild.
Gay and Mike are very proud of their adult grandchildren.

At Remuera Gardens, some of the residents' families got involved in the project, with grandchildren sending pictures and lovely messages to their grandparents.

Janet celebrated Mother's Day this year with her lovely grandchildren.
Pat's family have lots of pictures of the special moments she has shared with the grandchildren.

The villages made collages with the residents' pictures and they're displaying them in public areas for everybody to enjoy them. The display is a tribute tothe special bond that grandparents share with their grandchildren.

Remuera Gardens' pictures are displayed inside and outside the village common areas.

At the end of the ceremony, they featured a performance by the Eno Sisters, a trio of talented singers who sing songs from the wartime era.

Last week, the residents of Epsom Village were treated to a visit from Lonely Miaow, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and care of stray and abandoned cats and kittens. Lonely Miaow brought around 12 very friendly cats and kittens who loved mingling with the residents, having cuddles, and of course... getting into mischief.
