Lights, Camera, Comfort: The Remuera Gardens Experience

Craig, Anne, Lynette, Peter and Fye are some of the regular moviegoers at Remuera Gardens. They are big fans of the super comfortable seats that Cinema 57 has, of the same standard as professional theatres. The residents only have to walk a few metres to enjoy the same experience they would have in a movie theatre, with the added bonus that this service is completely free of charge and included among the benefits of being a Remuera Gardens resident.

Cinema 57 takes its name from the address of the village, which is located in 57 Richard Farrell Avenue. It’s an intimate boutique cinema that offers recent blockbusters and unforgettable classics. The movie theatre is not the only amenity inside the village (it also has a library, indoor pool, spa and gym) but for some residents it was certainly the biggest draw card to move to Remuera Gardens.

The Village Coordinator, Louise Smith, meticulously curates the movie schedule at Cinema 57: "As Village Coordinator it is my responsibility to ensure that there is a wide variety of choice when it comes to what is screened in our cinema. It really is a matter of selecting movies that reflect the residents’ interests. Some prefer to watch older movies, some like modern movies, some like to watch football or tennis and others like the International Festival movies – it really is about catering for people’s tastes. We have a large selection of DVD’S in our library too and we encourage our residents to select one if they want to relax for a couple of hours – especially if the weather isn’t good."

March brings an exhilarating burst of energy with Musical Madness setting the tone for the cinema schedule. During March, Remuera Gardens will feature screenings of beloved musical classics such as South Pacific, Grease, The Sound of Music, and Oklahoma.

Craig is one of the regulars who is really looking forward to indulging in the timeless magic of musicals at Cinema 57: “I love watching movies in the luxurious comfort of Cinema 57 at Remuera Gardens Real Living village because it feels like the real deal. Huge silver screen, surround sound and comfortable seats and ice creams! In March I’m really looking forward to watching Dirty Dancing and Grease because they’re two of my favourite musicals!”

Musicals have the unique ability to evoke positive emotions with their combination of engaging storytelling, vibrant music and expressive performances. The extra perk for the residents of Remuera Gardens is that they can enjoy a cinema experience in the comfort of their own home, watching these enduring classics among their friends at the village.

But within days of settling into The Avenue Apartments, those doubts disappeared. Surrounded by new friends, modern comforts, and a welcoming community, Kenneth quickly realised he should have made the move sooner.
