Holistic care a stroll away from the village

Warkworth Oaks is situated right in the heart of beautiful Warkworth village with restaurants and cafés, health services, supermarkets, shops, and so much more only a short stroll away.

The Mahurangi Health Collective is one of the services that has a special connection with the Oaks. They are a community based business that likes to focus on holistic care. Their practice covers several health needs with Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Myofacial, Massage Therapy and a Skin Doctor.

Marina Shannon has been working for the past three years as the physiotherapist of Mahurangi Health Collective. She assesses and diagnoses musculoskeletal conditions, to make sure that all her patients have the highest quality of life possible. Marina sees lots of patients from Warkworth Oaks and in the past she also ran hydrotherapy sessions at the village’s pool. “As a physiotherapist, the bread and butter of my job is strengthening, specially with conditions such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, declining balance and recurring falls. Sometimes I also see patients at the Oaks’ gym to ensure the posture in the machines is correct and they know how to use them safely”.

Warworth Oaks residents know Marina because she used to run the hydrotherapy sessions at the village's pool.

With several patients, Marina works with the practice’s podiatrist to treat some health conditions in a multidisciplinary way. The Mahurangi Health Collective also offers the services of a Skin Doctor and a Holistic Massage Therapist. Karen Janet Mills offers therapeutic massages, stress and anxiety massages, orthopedic cupping and the Myofacial release therapy. This innovative treatment is a hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue to eliminate pain, restore motion and bring the body into a state of ease and alignment.

Karen trained overseas to learn as much as possible about complimentary therapies such as Swedish massage, reflexology and the Myofacial Release Therapy. She currently also works for the Warkworth’s Women’s Centre offering affordable massages to the non-profit organization.
