Celebrating Auckland’s Zoo 100th Anniversary

A trip to the Auckland Zoo is a regular event in Real Living’s trip calendar. This year all the villages have been keen to visit the Zoo and join in their 100th year Anniversary celebrations. Epsom Village was very lucky to pick a very warm day for their trip to the zoo, with lots of animals basking in the morning sun while they were there.

The giraffes were having breakfast when our residents started their visit to the zoo.

After years of renovations, the Zoo has finally completed its South East Asia Jungle Track. The biggest project in its history, the track features a lowlands habitat for tigers and otters, high canopy primate habitat for orangutans and siamangs, and a swamp forest habitat for Sunda gharial (crocodile) and South East Asian fish species.

The South East Asia Jungle Track offered great photo opportunities for our visitors.

Epsom Village residents were very lucky to see the two new Sumatran tigers which arrived at Auckland Zoo in November last year. Ramah (the male tiger) and Zayana (the female) love exploring their habitat and with time the Carnivore Team hopes to be able to pair them with the goal of breeding.

Ramah and Zayana came from zoos in the United States but they have adapted very well to Auckland Zoo.
Our residents also had the chance to see a very active siamang swinging from one rope to another.

Epsom Village’s residents finished their visit checking the Zoo’s Anniversary exhibition. This dynamic experience offers a rich and colourful journey into the Zoo’s past, present and future - featuring photos, video and fun interactive activities for all ages.

Anzac Day commemoration

Yesterday, Pakuranga Park celebrated a memorial gathering to remember the fallen and pay tribute to the bravery of our military members. At the end of the ceremony, they featured a performance by the Eno Sisters, a trio of talented singers who sing songs from the wartime era.

Lonely Miaow visits Real Living

There's only one thing that can make you happier than a kitten... and it's a bunch of kittens! Last week, the residents of Epsom Village were treated to a visit from Lonely Miaow, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and care of stray and abandoned cats and kittens. Lonely Miaow brought around 12 very friendly cats and kittens who loved mingling with the residents, having cuddles, and of course... getting into mischief.
