Kensington House

Located in Remuera and surrounded by beautifully kept gardens, Kensington House provides specialised care for older people who need a high level of assistance.

Outstanding care in an attractive environment

Kensington House is a Stage II rest home with 32 beds, including eight executive suites.

The rest home provides both short and long term care, as well as respite and recuperation care. It is not licensed to accommodate residents with advanced care needs.

To ensure that all residents receive the level of care and attention they need, staffing levels exceed the Ministry of Health requirement for Stage II rest homes.

Friends, family and relatives are encouraged to visit. Visitors are also welcome to join residents for the midday or evening meal.

Kensington House is licensed and staffed as a home for people suffering from age-related problems. If a resident becomes ill and care is beyond our capabilities, we will discuss alternative arrangements with the family involved.

Sometimes it may be necessary for a resident to attend specialist, x-ray, medical centre, dentist or hospital appointments. We encourage families to take responsibility for these appointments. However our staff can help if this isn't possible.

Residents' medications are controlled by nursing staff. They are strictly monitored to ensure that medication is dispensed safely and correctly. Prescription medicines and other pharmacy needs are delivered to the home by a local pharmacy.

A doctor visits each Friday fortnight or as required. If a resident requires urgent medical attention at night or during the weekend, an on-call duty doctor will attend.

Facilities and services to make life enjoyable

• An activities co-ordinator visits every week day to ensure that residents have access to enjoyable physical and mental stimulation.
• A hairdresser is available every Tuesday, or residents who are still mobile can walk to the salon at the adjacent Remuera Gardens village.
• A podiatrist visits regularly and physiotherapy is available on request.
• As well as an extensive book library, the home has a collection of audio books.
• The main lounge has a television. Residents can also have televisions in their rooms.
